West Hills, California
West Hills is an affluent community in the west San Fernando Valley which is within the City of Los Angeles. Chatsworth is to the north, Woodland Hills to the south, Canoga Park to the east, Calabasas and Hidden Hills to the southwest, and Bell Canyon, the Simi Hills, and the Upper Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space Preserve to the west.
The percentage of West Hills residents aged 35 or older is among the highest in Los Angeles County.
El Escorpión Park is located in the Simi Hills area of West Hills. The entrance is at the western end of Vanowen Street, west of Valley Circle. The park includes a hiking trail leading to El Escorpión Peak which is a 1,475 foot landmark visible from much of the west San Fernando Valley. Views from the peak are quite spectacular. Other trails are available for walking, mountain biking, and equestrian use. Rock climbing is very popular in the park.
Bell Canyon Park, located in West Hills, is adjacent to El Escorpión Peak. The trailhead is at Bell Canyon Boulevard immediately before the Bell Canyon Gatehouse, west of Valley Circle. Trails connect to the Chesebro Canyon and Palo Comado Canyon trails in the northern section of the Santa Monica Mountains.

Shadow Ranch House - West Hills
Shadow Ranch is an historic adobe and redwood ranch home, built from 1869-1872, in what is now West Hills in the San Fernando Valley on land that was once part of the Workman Ranch. Today, the Shadow Ranch House stands on 13 acres of the original 13,000 acres. The building, which is a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument, is used as a recreational facility by the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks.
Orcutt Ranch Horticulture Center
The Orcutt Ranch Horticulture Center in West Hills, also known as the Rancho Sombra del Roble, is a 3,060 square foot historic residence constructed in 1926. It was part of a 210 acre ranch and orchard acquired in 1917 by William Orcutt at the foot of the Simi Hills. Mr. Orcutt was an early pioneer of oil production in California and the person who discovered prehistoric skeletons at the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles. The ranch was acquired by the City of Los Angeles in 1966 after being declared a Historical Cultural Monument in 1965. The Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Department maintains and operates the Orcutt Ranch which is made available for special events such as weddings.
